Mihail and I decided to travel with our backpacks around South America. Soon we faced the difficulties to eat properly and local. We landed in a little but wonderfull place, Salento, in the department of el Quindio, Colombia, without really planing it, we end it up oppening a little backpacker hostel where we elaborated our gastronomical plan: To provide our backpackers guests withthe best gourmet food possible, organic, and local, within a budget. We named Republika de Artistas Gastronomical Hostel.
We started offering a 9 courses breakfast to all our guest whom after a few months proclaim our concept as THE BACKPACKERS GASTRONOMICAL REVOLUTION.
We came up then with our 10+ COURSE DINNER EXTRAVAGANZA, all for less than 10 US $ PER PERSON for the whole menu.
All done in a very simple way. No fancy China ware, no silver cuttery, sometimes not even enough bolls to serve the soup and using mugs instead, but a sincere and honest will to bring the best of local food ina a gourmet way, with all organic fresh products at a very affordable rate.
